J&K government sets up panel for conservation of Himalayan ecosystem

Srinagar : The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday decided to set up a panel for preservation of high-range Himalayan ecosystem in the state.

The state government announced the setting up of a 14-member panel for conservation, sustainable use and restoration of the high-range Himalayan ecosystem.

"The panel headed by an administrative secretary of the government will implement the 'secure Himalaya' project which will work to secure, conserve and also ensure sustainable use and restoration of the Himalayan ecosystem.

"The state forest department's administrative secretary has been given the charge of taking policy decisions regarding the implementation of the programme, finance, human resource and operation of the project", a government statement said on Wednesday.

Representatives of the Union government, the Army's Leh-headquartered 14 corps and the United Nations Development programme have been coopted as members of the panel.
