Buenos Aires : Lanus beat third division football club Douglas Haig 4-2 on penalties after playing to a 1-1 tie in regulation, advancing to the next round of the Copa Argentina.

Lanus was cruising in Monday's contest, thanks to a goal by Joel Martinez in the 13th minute and the team seemed to have the match under control, reported Efe.

Just 11 minutes before the end of regulation time, however, Lanus's defence let up and Cristian Duma, taking a long kick from his team's goalkeeper, put a header past goalkeeper Esteban Andrada, tying the score at 1-1.

Lanus will play Atletico de Rafaela, which was relegated to the second division, in the round of 16.

Atletico de Rafaela knocked Defensores de Belgrano out of the tournament.

The winner of the Copa Argentina qualifies for the 2019 Copa Libertadores.
