London : Liverpool FC striker Daniel Sturridge denied allegations by England's Football Association that he violated regulations on gambling.

"Daniel has given his full and unequivocal cooperation throughout this process and has assured the club he will continue to do so," Liverpool said in a statement. "Daniel has also stated categorically that he has never gambled on football."

In 2014, the FA enacted a rule barring players in England's top eight divisions from betting on anything related to soccer.

The alleged violation took place in January 2018, while Sturridge was on loan to West Bromwich Albion.

"Daniel Sturridge has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of FA's Betting Rules," the FA said Monday on its Website, offering no further details.

The 29-year-old England international has until the close of business on Nov. 20 not responded to the accusation.

"As with any issue of this nature, we will allow the process to be concluded in its entirety before making any further comment," Liverpool FC said.
