New Delhi : A committee to evaluate the quality of suo-motu disclosures made under the RTI Act ranked 838 public authorities in five grades with 158 of them getting Grade A, a statement said on Tuesday.

It ranked 157 public authorities in Grade B, 118 in Grade C, 133 in Grade D and 272 in Grade E.

The committee set up by the Central Information Commission (CIC) comprised former Chief Information Commissioner A.N. Tiwari and former Information Commissioner M.M. Ansari.

The evaluation of 838 public authorities out of 2,092 registered with the Commission was done entirely based on feedback provided by them, a government statement said.

"The committee evolved an evaluation format and requested all public authorities to fill it up. Out of 2,092 public authorities registered with the Commission, the feedback was received from 838. This evaluation has been done entirely based on feedback provided by these public authorities," it added.

The statement said the CIC has accepted the report "subject to any observations that may now be received by the Commission from the public authorities".
