Paranaense beat Penarol in Copa Sudamericana

Sao Paulo (Brazil) : Brazil's Atletico Paranaense won 2-0 against UruguayŽs Penarol in the first leg of the second round of the Copa Sudamericana league.

Uruguayan goalkeeper Kevin Dawson became a hero and villain for Penarol on Thursday as he pulled out a great save against a penalty shoot at the 10th minute but was unable to stop Paranaense's first goal in the 59th due to a misunderstanding with his teammate, defender Carlos Matheu.

The Brazilian team lost one player in the 46th minute as its central defender, Wanderson, was sent off for double yellow cards, reports EFE news agency.

Penarol also lost its striker, Gabriel Fernandez, in the 61st minute after he was given a second yellow card.

Pablo, who was sent into the field only just for a few seconds, sealed the second goal for Paranaense in the 79th minute. He could have scored another goal if it had not been saved by Penarol.

Both teams are set to compete again in the second leg on Aug. 7 in Montevideo.

The match heated up as soon as it started as the two teams looked out for goals in their first game of the second round With only 10 players remaining on each side, the game ended with the defeat of the Uruguayan team as Atletico Paranaense moved ahead in the league thanks to the game-sealing goal of Pablo.
