Patna : A public interest litigation (PIL) petition was filed on Monday in the Patna High Court over the caving in of a part of a road here following heavy rains that lashed the state capital on Saturday-Sunday.

The petition was filed by a senior advocate of the high court, Manubhusan Pratap Sengar, seeking a probe into the incident and action against the guilty.

In his petition, Sengar said the road caved in due to the negligence of the engineers and the government. The incident was a result of official apathy, he said.

Bailey Road, considered the lifeline of Patna, caved in due to heavy rains for over 24 hours since Saturday. Several areas are waterlogged, a district administration official said.

According to police officials, traffic was badly disrupted for hours between Hartali More and Sheikhpura after the road was closed.

Taking a serious notice of the incident, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited the site along with his Cabinet colleagues and senior officials.

The Road Construction Department has started the repair work.

In Patna, waterlogging is widespread after heavy rains as most drains are choked with plastic waste.
