Rio de Janeiro : Sao Paulo could make a bid to sign Paraguay international defender Jorge Moreira from River Plate, the Brazilian football club's coach has announced.

A series of injuries have meant that Moreira has not played since last October, but that hasn't dampened the enthusiasm of the current Brazilian Serie A leaders, reports Xinhua news agency.

"I don't like to talk about players from other clubs but it's true that he is a very good player and we consider him to be a possible (transfer) target," Sao Paulo's Uruguayan coach Diego Aguirre told reporters on Monday.

"I've seen a lot of him. He is a potent player with an eye for goal. The (transfer window) closes on Wednesday which makes things difficult," Aguirre added.

Moreira is contracted with River Plate until June 2020, having joined the Argentine club from Paraguay's Libertad in 2016.

The 28-year-old right-back has been capped 15 times for Paraguay since his international debut in 2013.
