Spain, Germany, N.Korea enter Women's U17 WC quarters

Montevideo : Spain beat Canada, Germany beat the US and North Korea Cameroon 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinals of the U-17 Women's soccer World Cup underway in Uruguay.

Spain beat Canada 5-0 in a Group D match on Wednesday, while in a Group C tie, Germany beat the US 4-0 as reigning champion North Korea won over Cameroon 2-1, Efe news reported.

The Spaniards went to half time with a three-goal lead thanks to shots by Salma Paralluelo in the 9th minute, Irene Lopez in the 22nd, and Claudia Pina in the 25th.

In the second half, Irene Lopez, chosen as player of the match, scored her second goal in the 50th minute and Eva Navarro scored in the 71st to leave the final figures on the scoreboard.

Spain will now face North Korea on Saturday at the Alberto Suppici stadium in Colonia.

Canada will face Germany on Sunday at the Charrua stadium here.

Japan will play against New Zealand on November 24 in Colonia, while Ghana will face Mexico a day later in Montevideo in the other quarter clashes.
