Upgradation of Government Medical Colleges and Institutions incomplete: CAG
New Delhi : Upgradation of six Government Medical Colleges and Institutions (GMCIs) under Phase III, which was scheduled to be completed by March 2017, is still incomplete, a report released on Tuesday said.
A total of 71 GMCIs were scheduled for upgradation in facilities and according to the CAG performance audit report of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), eight GMCIs of Phase I and II were completed with delays ranging from eight months to seven years.
"In five other GMCIs, work had not been completed within scheduled time after delays which ranged from three months to over five years," it said.
The report noted that in seven GMCIs, utilisation certificates amounting to Rs 234.98 crore were yet to be furnished to the Health Ministry.
While in 10 GMCIs, 408 equipments worth Rs 71.25 crore were either not installed or delayed by three months to seven years, in 9 institutes 977 equipment worth Rs 34.99 crore remain idle or non-functional.
The PMSSY was announced in August 2003 for setting up of AIIMS and upgradation of existing State GMCIs.
