Uribe leads America to 2-1 win over Morelia in Liga MX

Mexico City : Mateus Uribe, who was in Colombia's World Cup team in Russia, helped lead America to a 2-1 win over Morelia in the Liga MX Apertura tournament.

Mexican Jorge Sanchez scored in the 29th minute and Uribe made it 2-0 in the 54th minute of Saturday's match at Mexico City's Azteca Stadium, reports Efe news.

Chilean Sebastian Vegas scored on a header in the 83rd minute for Morelia, preventing America from notching a shutout.

America, which has a record of 5-2-2 and 17 points, climbed into second place in the tournament standings, while Morelia is in 11th place, with 12 points.

In other action, Argentine Lucas Zelarayan scored a goal in the 82nd minute to give the Tigres UANL a 1-1 tie at home against Pachuca.

Spanish manager Pako Ayestaran's Pachuca squad had taken a 1-0 lead on a header by Argentine Franco Jara in the 31st minute.

French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac, who leads the Liga MX in scoring, came close three times to nailing goals for the Tigres, but he was unable to execute.

The Tigres are in sixth place in the Apertura tournament standings, with 14 points, while Pachuca moved up to 10th place, with 12 points.

On Sunday, Santos Laguna plays Leon, the Pumas take on the Lobos BUAP and Atlas hosts Tijuana.
