New Delhi : A woman law graduate committed suicide on Thursday by jumping from a building in north Delhi, police said, even as her family cried foul and claimed someone had pushed her to her death from the seventh floor.

Varisha Rais, 26, a resident of Sultanpuri in west Delhi, had gone to Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) in Pitampura around 11 a.m. to enquire about the date for the orientation session before the start of an LLM course, which she was supposed to pursue from August 1.

Her family said Varisha was working with a law firm in Rajendra Place for the last three years. She had done her LLB from Delhi University.

Security guards and students on the campus said they heard a loud thump around 11.30 a.m. and thereafter the young woman was found lying in a pool of blood on the ground after the fall.

She was taken to a nearby hospital but declared brought dead on arrival.

"We have not recovered any suicide note from her possession, though her two mobile phones have been seized. We are trying to know the reason behind the death," a senior police officer said.

However, Varisha's aunt Tajwur Anjum cried foul and claimed that "it is a big conspiracy as someone pushed her down from the seventh floor. She was studious".

"Today, she left her home at 9 a.m and was happy. She had told me yesterday (Wednesday) that she will get to know about her orientation date on Thursday and that she will know about the list of colleges for taking admission in an LLM course," the aunt added.
