Kolkata : Only a couple of months are left when West Bengal will go for Assembly Polls and the leaders have started to offer facilities which can earn them trust and votes of the people. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday announced an affordable food plate that will provide full nutritious meal to the poor.

CM announced 'Maa Kitchens' in the poll-bound state, the government will be providing a nutritious meal - a plate full of rice, cooked vegetables, dal and an egg – at a subsidized rate of Rs 5. This is similar to Karnataka's Indira Canteen and Tamil Nadu's Amma Canteen.

While launching the affordable food scheme, Mamata Banerjee said, "This is the Maa Kitchen. We are proud of our Maa (mother). Wherever there is Maa, things will be good. We salute all mothers."

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has tagged the new scheme as political stunt ahead of polls to lure the people.

"The people of Bengal don't have money to buy food to eat. That's why she has to run Maa Canteen so that people get food at Rs 5. She has proved she has failed. People have become beggars and she has to feed people at Rs 5," BJP's Bengal chief, Dilip Ghosh said.

West Bengal will go for polls in the month of April-May this year. The official dates are likely to be announced by the end of this month.
