AirAsia India suspends pilot Gaurav Taneja for raising safety concerns

New Delhi : AirAsia India pilot and famous vlogger Gaurav Taneja has been officially suspended for allegedly raising his voice against the safety concerns in the airline's operations.

Mr Taneja has raised his voice against an incident where he pointed out the violation of safety protocols that have been put in place to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, endangering lives of hundreds of passengers traveling.

Announcing about his suspension, Gaurav Taneja wrote: "Today I have been officially suspended from @AirAsiaIndian for standing up for safe operations of an aircraft and its passengers.@AwakenIndia #SabkeLiye"

His tweet got retweets and soon #BoycottAirAsiaIndia started trending on Twitter.

DGCA, on the other hand, announced that it has taken note of the "concerns raised by some stakeholders against a particular airline and its approach to safety".

The DGCA has reportedly started investigating the issues flagged by Taneja and will take appropriate action against the airline if his allegations stand true.

According to a news report, AirAsia suspended Gaurav Taneja under disciplinary action for opting sick leaves very often and not because he raised any security lapses. "There are some disciplinary issues due to which he has been suspended. This issue is being dealt with internally," an AirAsia official said on condition on anonymity.
