Indian Government BANS 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, Shareit and UC Browser

New Delhi : Indian has been known to take a peaceful approach towards most things in an attempt to handle situations calmly and in a similar move, the government has taken the decision to ban some Chinese app as a way to put our foot down. Following the border tensions with China at the Ladakh border where some incidents occurred during which a number of people were injured and lost their lives due to the clashes. This comes as a digital strike against China.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has put out a list of 59 Chinese apps that have been banned by the Government of India. This move has been made because of some information which has recently come to light. The intelligence sources have suggested that these apps have been violating the terms of usage and compromising user privacy. Aside from this, they are also being used as malware and spyware in digital warfare against India. In the official statement, the government has claimed that these apps have been blocked/banned because "in the view of the information available they are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order". The Ministry of Information Technology received a recommendation letter from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center and the Ministry of Home Affairs. As per section 69A of the IT Act, the Ministry of IT has the power to do so and have made this move keeping in mind the national security.
In the recent few weeks, we have seen a major uproar across the nation wherein the citizens have made moves to boycott Chinese products and services after the border clashes and the bitterness between the India-China relationship. The Indian government has been receiving representation from the citizens with regards to data security and privacy breach issues which is why this move has been made to protect and safeguard the interest of Indian citizens who are mobile and internet users. We also know that Indian people have been working hard to bring down the rating of popular Chinese apps after the border tension and finally it has all come to an end after the ban on some of the most popular Chinese apps including TikTok, Shareit, Cam Scanner and many more.
