The other side of story behind 52,000 Rs liquor bill

New Delhi : The liquor shops reopened in India on Monday and people just couldn't resist themselves from buying their favourite alcohol, resulting in chaos at several locations with many flouting social distancing rules. While there were many videos and photos which kept trending on the social media, there was one which got more attention than the others.

A picture of a bill amounting to Rs 52,841 with claims that a man bought so many liquors attracted most of the people’s attention and even the cops went ahead and charging the shop owner of flouting the sale rule.

The bill belongs to Vanilla Spirt Zone in Bengaluru South's Tavarekere area that had sold 13.5 litres of hard liquor and 35 litres of beer to a single customer. As per the new guidelines, retail liquor outlets cannot sell more than 2.6 litres of Indian-Made foreign liquor or 18 liters of beer to a customer per day.

The excise officers later mentioned that the seller has claimed of bill not belonging to one person but a group of eight people who paid through one debit card.

"We are investigating his claim and only then we will decide on what penal action to be taken against him," said A Giri, excise DC, Bengaluru South.
