Goa : It's already December and handful of days are left for the celebration of Christmas and New Year. If you believe in the trend of getaways then, we have sorted some places which won't afford much and instead offer you unlimited joy. For those who want a holiday break without just spending their days and nights at home, here are a few options.

Goa

Needless to say that Christmas and New Year celebration will be awesome in Goa. Its a place where you will find party circuit, serene beauty of the beaches and some idyllic natural setting. Besides hotels and resorts, you may choose some old Portuguese villas which has been converted into homestays. Coming to activities, you may take a walk alongside beach, try some adventure water sports and pamper your taste bud with delicious meals of Goan prawn or fish curry with local varieties of rice.

Kumaon, Uttarakhand

When it’s about spending holidays in Kumaon, the beauty lies in crisp clear skies,  snow-capped peaks, cold nights and golden hue in the morning lights.  Mukteshwar is a great, cheaper option. There are beautiful homestays built on the edge of a forest so you can see nothing but green for miles and miles. Unless it snows of course, upon which you can see the snow slowly covering all the trees in a blanket of white. Meals at the homestay are at nominal rates and you can also enjoy a meal of ‘mountain Maggi’. There are many budget homestays between Mukteshwar, Nainital and Almora, which can be your best pick to celebrate the festive season.

Bharatpur, Rajasthan

If you are a wild life enthusiast, then Bharatpur in Rajasthan will suit your taste of holiday. Just pack your binoculars, walking shoes, long pants and sleeves, a cap, and head off to be among the beautiful and rare birds of Keoladeo National Park. At the very top of the birding hotspots in India, the wetlands of Bharatpur attract several winter visitors, including large varieties of cranes and ducks as well as the endangered White-bellied Heron. With over 400 birds, you can spend hours noting down what you saw in your bird book. When its about staying in Bharatpur, you may check rooms at heritage haveli, Abhaneri Niwas, which comes at a reasonable rate. Located two hours from Jaipur, Ranthambhore and Bharatpur, Abhaneri can be a great base for your vacation.

Madikeri, Karnataka

If you are located in Banglore, then you can't afford to miss Madikeri. Just drive out about five hours from Bangalore towards the mist-covered coffee plantations in Coorg. Madikeri is a hill town located in the Western Ghats, and the mountains here are greener than any other range in the country. The backdrop of hills in Madikeri adds a gorgeous charm to the already beautiful landscape. There are good number of luxury resorts and affordable homestays where you can enjoy local Coorgi delicacies such as pandi curry (pork dish) or bamboo shoot curry with steamed rice dumplings. There are lovely drives near the town, dotted with viewpoints looking over the valleys as well as gushing waterfalls.
