ISRO's Chandrayaan 2 mission to cost Rs 800 crores, less than making cost of Interstellar movie
New Delhi : India's second moon mission - Chandrayaan 2 - is making headlines for being one of the most cost-effective space missions; at Rs 800 crores it happens to be even cheaper than the making cost of famous Hollywood movie 'Interstellar' - a science fiction drama based on space activities.
'Interstellar' movie was made on a huge budget of Rs 1,062 crores. India's mission will set an example of how a mission can be completed in time with a limited budget.
"We keep a strict vigil on every stage of spacecraft's development, therefore, we are able to avoid wastage of products," ISRO chairman Dr. K Sivan was quoted saying by the Times of India in an interview.
ISRO chairman Dr. K Sivan said that the organization has identified two locations for the landing on the moon. "We have identified two locations and will be choosing one. No other moon mission has landed in this area," Dr. K Sivan said according to a TOI report.
Recently, ISRO announced that the Chandrayaan 2 launch date has been postponed to April from March. They will also attempt to land a rover on the surface of Moon's south pole.
“The rover will land near an as-yet-unexplored south pole,” Isro’s new chairperson, K Sivan said.
“India is going to launch Chandrayaan-2 in April. It is under Chandrayaan-1 mission that the Isro spotted water on the moon. Chandrayaan-2 is a further extension of the project and it is as good as landing a man on the moon,” Singh said at a conference on Friday.
