New Delhi : Communication satellite GSAT 17, made by Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO), on Thursday morning was launched successfully from the French Guiana.

ISRO's GSAT 17 has now become the third communication satellite to successfully reach the orbit in last two months.

The total weight lifted by the rocket was 10,177 kg or just over 10 tonne. According to ISRO, GSAT-17 was configured around I-3K extended bus with a lift-off mass of about 3,477 kg.

Soon after the separation from the launch vehicle, Isro's Master Control Facility at Hassan in Karnataka took over the command and control of GSAT-17.

GSAT-17 carries Payloads in Normal C-band, Extended C-band and S-band to provide various communication services.

GSAT-17 also carries equipment for metereological data relay and satellite based search and rescue services being provided by earlier INSAT satellites, ISRO said.
