ISRO to launch backup missile for IRNSS-1A on April 12

Hyderabad : The Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO) will be launching a backup satellite to replace IRNSS-1A on April 12, which had been registering technical glitches from past few days. The space agency plans to install signal receivers on the ground, which will give weather alerts to fishermen in the sea and will also help them in positioning.

Astride PSLV, the 1.4tonne IRNSS-1I will be launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. This is the second time ISRO is trying the replacement, last time mission was failed after the heat shield did not separate. 

The receiver will make lives of fishermen easier as it will help them is finding their location, weather updates and also best suited location for fishing. All the fishermen will be required to download an application on their smartphones.

This will be great in decreasing death of fishermen due to unexpected weather conditions.

ISRO has been on a roll in the last few years. Last month, it successfully launched communication satellite the GSAT6A from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota.
