New Delhi : Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who is in South Africa these days, congratulated ISRO chief S Somnath moments after Chandrayaan 3 made successful soft-landing on Moon's surface, making India first nation to reach the north pole region of lunar.

Over a phone call from Johannesburg, PM shri Narendra Modi praised the efforts of S Somnath and his team for the incredible feat. He also said that it is interesting to see how the name Somnath is also known as moon in english. While he praised ISRO, he also mentioned that he will personally meet and greet the team once he returns to India.

On August 23, 2023, at 06:04 pm, Chandrayaan 3 successfully made soft landing of Vikram lander on the south pole lunar region. The complete landing was live telecasted by ISRO on its official twitter. Prime Minister shri Narendra Modi was present at the event via video conferencing.

With this India has become the fourth nation to touch down lunar surface, as well as first nation to soft land on south pole.

The total budget for the remarkable ISRO Chandrayaan 3 stands at Rs 615 crores, which is less than the budget of many sci-fi Hollywood movies. 

SpaceX founder Elon Musk also pointed the fact and praised India for achieving the feat.
