The Tamil Nadu government has rejected a Central government-sponsored report on the groundwater contamination in Tuticorin, saying it "prejudices" the state government cases in various courts against the Sterlite copper smelter plant of Vedanta Ltd.

DMK President M.K. Stalin on Friday expressed shock that no action has been taken against Tamil Nadu Health and Family Welfare Minister C. Vijaya Baskar and DGP T.K. Rajendran after CBI raids related to the gutkha scam and again demanded their sacking as well as arrest.

Former Chennai Police Commissioner S. George on Friday said he has not received any money from any gutkha manufacturer.

The Finance Commission would not like to penalise states that have performed well on various development parameters, a top official said on Thursday.
