Self-styled gau rakshaks allegedly killed a man in Rajasthan's Alwar, while critically injuring his fellow passenger.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday dismissed reports of cow vigilantes indulging in communal violence, saying that on the contrary those protecting bovines within the constitutional framework were being "attacked and killed".

"This must stop. What action have you taken? It is not permissible. There has to be some kind of action," a bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice Amitava Roy and Justice A.M. Khanwilkar said.

A group of cow vigilantes attacked two youths of Malegaon town in Maharashtra's Washim district last week after suspecting them of possessing banned beef, police said on Monday.

Four members of a self-styled 'gau rakshak' (cow vigilante) group were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district after they attacked and injured a nomadic family of five, police said here on Saturday.
