Heavy rains have been forecast for Karnataka over the weekend due to a low pressure trough that is expected to form over Arabian Sea, an official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.

Parts of Kolkata went under ankle to knee-deep water on Thursday following blinding overnight showers, with the met office issuing heavy rainfall warnings for the next three days.

The schools in three districts of Tamil Nadu remained shut on Monday due to heavy rains. Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts faced incessant showers on Sunday.

Schools in Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts were closed for second consecutive day on Wednesday owing to rains, the district administrations said.
