I was waiting for a chance to play for India: Mohammad Shami
New Delhi : After scoring a hat trick against Afghanistan in ICC World Cup 2019, Indian paced Mohammad Shami said that he was waiting for a chance to play for India and show his skills.
"I was waiting for my chance to play for India, and finally when I got one, I took a hat trick. I am very happy with my performance. Hat trick happens in rare and specially in world cup," said Shami during post match conference.
Mohammad Shami had replaced Bhuwaneshwar Kumar, who suffered strain in the hamstring in the last match against Pakistan.
He took 4 wickets and gave away just 40 runs; in the last over of the match Shami scored a hat trick and India won the game by 11 runs.
"My plan was to go for a Yorker after taking two wickets; even Dhoni suggested the same, I did the same and got the hat-trick," said Shami.
"The only thing in my mind while bowling last over is to execute your plans and back your skills. There is not too much option as a bowler, the more you do variation in bowling, chances are high that you will concede runs," he added.
Earlier, Afghanistan bowlers restricted India to 224 runs. While, Indian bowlers stopped Afghanistan at 213 runs.
