New Delhi : The excitement has begun as the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday announced the schedule and fixtures for the highly anticipated ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. The mega event, set to span 46 days of thrilling cricket action, will kick off on October 6, 2023, with a clash between England and New Zealand at a venue yet to be disclosed.

Host nation India, known for its cricket fervor, will play their first match on October 8 against five-time World Cup winner Australia. The match will take place in the iconic city of Chennai. 

A total of 10 teams will compete in the event, with the first eight already securing their spots through the Cricket World Cup Super League. The remaining two places will be decided at the conclusion of the Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe, which is set to finish on July 9. The participating teams will engage in a round-robin format, facing each other in nine matches.

With the top four teams from the group stage progressing to the knockout stage, the competition is expected to intensify as teams battle for a place in the semi-finals. The knockout stages promise to be nail-biting affairs, with the first semi-final scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 15, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The following day, cricket enthusiasts will witness another thrilling encounter in Kolkata's historic Eden Gardens as the second semi-final unfolds. Both semi-finals will have a reserve day, ensuring no weather interruptions dampen the excitement.

Cricket aficionados around the globe are eagerly awaiting the clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan. This much-anticipated encounter is scheduled for Sunday, October 15, in Ahmedabad, a city renowned for its enthusiasm for the sport. The high-stakes match is sure to captivate fans and create an atmosphere like no other.

The pinnacle of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 will be the grand finale, set to take place on November 19 at the magnificent Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In case of any unforeseen circumstances, November 20 has been allocated as the reserve day. All three knockout fixtures, including the final, will be day-night encounters, with the matches commencing at 14:00 local time.
