New Delhi : As India and Pakistan get ready to face each other in the T20 World Cup match in Colombo on Sunday, much of the talk has been about whether the players will shake hands before or after the game.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav did not give a clear answer when asked about it. “Wait for 24 hours. We are here to play cricket. Have good food and sleep,” he told reporters. His reply kept the suspense alive.

The handshake issue began during last year’s Asia Cup in Dubai. After the Pahalgam incident and Operation Sindoor by the Indian Armed Forces, the two teams stopped shaking hands before and after matches. In that tournament, India did not shake hands with Pakistan players. There was also controversy when India did not step onto the field to receive the trophy from PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha also avoided giving a direct answer. “We will see tomorrow,” he said. However, he added that cricket should be played in the right spirit.

Talking about the match, Suryakumar said Pakistan may have a small advantage because they arrived in Colombo earlier. Still, he said India is fully prepared.

He confirmed that all-rounder Washington Sundar is fit and ready to play after recovering from injury at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. On a pitch that may help spin bowlers, Sundar could be useful because he can both bat and bowl.

With emotions high and both teams eager to win, fans can expect a tense and exciting match on Sunday.
