India beat Sri Lanka by 34 runs to lift U-19 Asia Cup title
India’s Under-19 side displayed a clinical performance against Sri Lanka to lift the Asia Cup title at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, India Under-19s first posted a competitive 273 for eight in their stipulated 50 overs and restricted the hosts to 239 in 48.4 overs.
India’s Himanshu Rana played a stroke full inning of 71 runs off 79 balls and Shubman Gill scored 70 off 92 balls.
In the later overs, skipper Abhishek Sharma, middle-order batsman Salman Khan and tailender Kamlesh Nagarkoti too added some valuable runs.
Chasing 274 runs for win, Sri Lanka Under-19s lost the plot in last 10 overs. At one stage the islanders were crushing at 196 for four in 37 overs. Reven Kelly with 62 runs and Hasitha Boyagoda 37 runs stabilised their chase with a 78-run second wicket stand.
Skipper Kamindu Mendis scored 53 runs in the losing cause.
Skipper Abhishek claimed four wickets and leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, bagged three wickets to dismantle the Lankans.
