Delhi : In the World Cup final here on Sunday, Australia's bowlers put on a professional display to dismiss India for a below-par 240, despite heroic fifty-fives from KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. On a sluggish, dry surface, Australia was sent into bat first. Captain Rohit Sharma gave India a flying start again with a 31-ball 47, but Australia battled back, taking three wickets to reduce the hosts to 81 for 3.

Then, in an attempt to salvage the Indian innings, Kohli (54) and Rahul (66) added 67 runs before the latter was dismissed by Pat Cummins. Following that, India struggled to identify the limits. Suryakumar Yadav, eighteen, was likewise unsuccessful at the back end. Mitchell Starc (3/55) took three wickets for Australia, with the other wicket-takers being Pat Cummins (2/34), Josh Hazlewood (2/60), Glenn Maxwell (1/35) and Adam Zampa (1/44).

So far, India gave up 60 runs in power play while taking 3 wickets.

In the PowerPlay, Rohit went all out and came back with three wickets. Although he would likely have one more, this is still a respectable beginning. To remove the top order before dew may interfere, Bumrah and Shami have each bowled five overs. This phase is shared at 60/3.
