Kusal Mendis arrested over car accident that killed cyclist

New Delhi : Sri Lanka cricketer Kusal Mendis has been arrested after he was found allegedly involved in a fatal car crash that killed a cyclist just outside the country's capital Colombo, police said.

According to the police officials, the 25-year-old cricketer was driving a SUV at Panadura before dawn when the incident happened.

Mendis was included in the 16-member squad announced for Test series against England in March, but the tour was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The investigations are on in the matter.

Earlier, former spin bowler, Kaushal Lokuarachchi, was given a four-year suspended jail sentence for crashing into a woman pedestrian and killing her in 2003.
