New Delhi : Cricketers Suresh Raina and Mahendra Singh Dhoni made their fans skip a heartbeat with a shocking announcement of their retirement from the international cricket. They both announced their retirement on August 15 when India celebrated Independence Day.

Suresh Raina, in an interview with Dainik Jagran, has revealed how they decided to make the announcement on August 15. He said that Dhoni had made up his mind to retire from the game as soon as the T20 World Cup was postponed due to coronavirus pandemic.

"We had already made up our minds to retire on Saturday (August 15). Dhoni’s jersey number is 7 and mine is 3 – put it together and it makes 73. And on August 15, India completed 73 years of independence, so there couldn’t have been a better day," Raina said.

Suresh Raina also mentioned that soon after making the announcement, both of them hugged and cried.

In a relief for their fans, the two player will be seen playing in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League which is scheduled to be played in UAE in September.

Both Suresh Raina and Mahendra Singh Dhoni play for Chennai Super Kings.
