Watch video: Uproar in Rajya Sabha shuts Sachin Tendulkar
New Delhi : Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar stood up in Rajya Sabha to speak but uproar over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remark on Manmohan Singh forced him to go silent.
This was one of the rarest occasions when master blaster Sachin Tendulkar was about to address Rajya Sabha over issues in Indian sports. But, before he could have said anything everyone started shouting and he had no option but to witness everything and keep quiet.
Sachin Tendulkar was supposed to initiate discussion on “Right to Play and the future of sports in India”.
Now, he will get a chance to speak on Friday as the house was adjourned for the day following uproar.
Opposition has been demanding an apology from PM Narendra Modi for his verbal attack on former PM Manmohan Singh during an election rally in Gujarat.
"He (Sachin Tendulkar) has earned name for India at the world stage, it is a matter of shame that he was not allowed to speak even when everyone knew it was on today's agenda. Are only politicians allowed to speak?" said Jaya Bachchan, Rajya Sabha MP.
