Arsene Wenger ends 22-year-long journey with Arsenal

New Delhi : Arsene Wenger's 22-year-long journey came to an end after he announced his departure a year before his contract was due to expire.

The news comes at a time when Arsenal is at number sixth position in English Premier League. The current season will be his last with the team.

In the statement, the Frenchman said, "After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season. I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years. I managed the club with full commitment and integrity. I want to thank the staff, the players, the Directors and the fans who make this club so special. I urge our fans to stand behind the team to finish on a high. To all the Arsenal lovers take care of the values of the club. My love and support for ever."

68-year-old Wenger has won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups, including doing a Double in 1998 and 2002. He was appointed as the coach of Arsenal on October 1, 1996. With a journey of 22 years, he remains to be the longest-serving manager in history of English Premier League.

He has headed nothing less than record 823 games.
