Moritz Fuerste to lead Orissa Lancers in HIL 2017
Bhubaneswar : Orissa-based hockey franchise Kalinga Lancers unveiled their new jersey for HIL 2017 in a glittering function. The team also announced German player Moritz Fuerste as their captain for the current season, which will start from January 21. Fuerste had also led the side last season.
IDCO CMD and chairman of OSDPC Sanjay Kumar Singh, Orissa sports and youth services department commissioner-cum-secretary Vishal Kumar Dev, MCL general manager BB Mishra and Tata Steel chief executive Manikant Nayar were present as guests during the unveiling of the jersey.
The new uniform will make its in-game debut at the first match, when Kalinga Lancers will take on Delhi Waveriders at the Kalinga Stadium here January 22.
Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony Dev praised HIL for improving the standard of hockey in the state. “Orissa has been the nursery for hockey and have produced talents at the national and international levels. The Hockey India League (HIL) has inculcated a spirit of enthusiasm among the youth brigade of the state. The Kalinga Lancers have a good combination of youth energy and competitive experience. By the dint of their performances, they have acquired a great fan following. I am sure, this year also the crowds will also throng the Kalinga Stadium to see their favourite stars in action,” said Dev.
