Abu Dhabi : Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma played the much needed knock in the final game of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 to power his team to win the trophy for the fifth time and score a comfortable 5-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals on Tuesday.

In the final match, Mumbai Indians chased down 157 runs with 8 balls remaining in the game. Rohit Sharma scored 68 runs off 50 balls with the help of 5 fours and 4 sixes. With this Mumbai became the first team in IPL history to win the title for five times.

For Delhi, Anrich Nortje picked two wickets, while Kagiso Rabada and Marcus Stoinis shared a scalp each in the final. Rabada also clinched the Purple Cap for 2020 season with 30 wickets, three more than Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

Delhi Capitals won the toss and decided to bat first against Mumbai Indians. In restricted 20 overs, they managed to score 156/7 despite early blows. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant scored fifties to help their team reach the fighting total.

Iyer remained unbeaten on 65 off 50 balls, as his innings was laced by 6 fours and 2 sixes. While the wicketkeeper-batsman returned to form at the right time and scored 56 runs off 38 balls. It was the first fifty-plus score for Pant in the ongoing season as he hit 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Mumbai Indians bowlers showed their class in the final five overs as they gave away only 45 runs and took four wickets in the process.

MI had earlier won the IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019.
