"Mahendra Singh Dhoni to play his last game on…"
New Delhi : With every IPL season starting, one question that has become a constant is when former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is hanhing his boots from the Indian Premier League. Looks like the 18th season will be his last and this year Dhoni fans might get their last chance to see him wear the yellow as his name has been announced in the list of retained players by CSK.
MS Dhoni is one of five players retained by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, and Matheesha Pathirana. According to reports, MS Dhoni has taken a significant cut in his pay this year as he will take only Rs 4 crores to play for the season.
Interestingly, CSK has retained Dhoni as an "uncapped player." This has been done in accordance to the reinstated BCCI rules, which say that any IPL team can retain their player in the uncapped category if he has not represented India for the last five years.
CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan has also given the hint that MS Dhoni aims to play his last game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Dhoni had expressed this wish during an event in 2021, marking CSK’s title win.
"As far as Mahi bhai (brother) is concerned, you know he keeps everything to himself. It comes out at the last moment only. Knowing the passion he has for CSK, and also knowing the following he has, and he also mentioned in one of the interviews that he’ll play his last game in Chennai, we’re hoping that he will continue as far as CSK is concerned. As long as MS wants to play, the doors are open. Knowing him, his commitment, and his dedication, I’m sure he’ll always take the right decision," said Viswanathan in a chat with Ambati Rayudu on Provoke TV.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been a key player for Chennai Super Kings since inception. He has lead the yellow side till 2023 and gave leadership to Ruturaj Gaikwad in 2024.
