New Delhi : 19th Asian Games 2022 have been postponed amid rising number of coronavirus cases in China, announced the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The new dates will be announced after a discussion with Chinese Olympic Committee and Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee.

"We strongly believe this decision will benefit the city of Hangzhou, athletes and global fans," said OCA while announcing the news on Twitter.

"Considering the impact of the ongoing pandemic, and the health of athletes, fans and supporting staff, the executive OCA board decided to postpone 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022," the statement by OCA read.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games too were postponed by a year because of Covid-19 and held last year. China had earlier hosted Asian Games in 2010.
