New Delhi : Despite putting best efforts, the Indian Squash player Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal had to win a silver medal in squash mixed doubles during Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia. The Indian pair moved down to Australian Donna Urquhart and Cameron Pilley 0-2 (8-10, 10-11) in the final on April 14, Saturday.

The duo Dipika and Ghosal had earlier defeated New Zealand’s Joelle King and Paul Coll 2-1 (9-11, 11-8, 11-10) in a keenly-contested match to enter the final. In that game, the Indian pair made an outstanding comeback after losing the first game.

They, though, failed to repeat their semi final heist on Saturday. After losing the first set 8-11, Dipika and Saurav gave their opponent team tough fight in the second set, but in the end their efforts didn’t prove fruitful.

There is yet another chance for Dipika to win gold when she, along with her partner Joshna Chinappa, will take on New Zealand’s Joelle King and Amanda Landers-Murphy in women’s doubles final on Sunday.

Now, coming to table tennis competition in CWG, Indian player Manika Batra claimed gold in women’s singles beating Yu Mengyu of Singapore at the Gold Coast on Friday.

The 22-year-old Delhi girl defeated her opponent with 11-7, 11-6, 11-2, 11-7.

Batra had beaten Tracy Feng of Australia in the round of 16, Yihan Zhou of Singapore in quarters and Tianwel Feng in semis to make the final.

This is Batra’s third medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, after her failure in Glasgow in 2014.

In the men’s doubles bronze medal play-off, Harmeet Desai and Sanil Shetty beat Singapore’s Pang Yew En Keon and Poh Shao Feng Ethan.
