CWG 2018: Wrestler Rahul Aware bags gold in men's freestyle 57kg
New Delhi : Hurrah, there’s one more gold medal for India! Yes, wrestler Rahul Balasaheb Aware has bagged a gold medal in men's Freestyle 57kg wrestling final. The wrestler has defeated Canada's Steven Takahashi and achieved the top position. Now, India has won 13 gold medals at 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Rahul Aware is an Asian Wresting Championship bronze medallist. Earlier in 2011 Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in Melbourne, he has won his first gold medal. And, this one is the second CWG medal of his career. Aware was dominant right from the start, pulling off three two-point moves in the first round. The Commonwealth Games 2018 is taking place at Gold Coast, Australia.
Though the Canadian wrestler used excellent technical skillS with a four-point move, it was enough to check Aware from taking a two-point lead into the break.
The Maharashtra wrestler showed his talent in the second round. He had enlarged his lead by one point in the initial stages before the Canadian scored three points to reduce the gap.
Aware however, made an ankle hold to execute the classic 'fitlay' move which saw rack up eight consecutive points.
That gave him a virtually undefeatable eight-point lead which proved too much for Steven to surmount.
