CWG 2022: Mirabai Chanu wins Gold in 49-kg weightlifting

New Delhi : Mirabai Chanu scripted history on Saturday when she lifted the first gold medal for India at Commonwealth Games 2022; she lifted a total of 201 kgs to win the gold medal in women's 49kg weightlifting event.

This was India's third medal in the day with Sanket Sargar taking silver and Gururaja winning bronze medal.

Four years ago, Mirabai had won the gold medal in Gold Coast while Ranaivosoa had finished second. The order remained the same in Birmingham too.

"I am elated and happy to win the Gold medal for my country at Commonwealth Games 2022," said Mirabai in her winning remarks. "It was an emotional moment to hear the national anthem after the victory," she added.
