New Delhi : India's freestyle wrestler Sakshi Malik has won the gold medal for India at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 in Birmingham on Friday (August 5). She defeated Canada's Godinez Gonzalez in the Women's 62 kg category final.

Initially, Canadian Gonzalez was dominating the match as she took a lead of 0-4 in the first period. Then in the second period, Malik scripted an entire comeback to equal the scores 4-4 and won the match via fall.

The match lasted for around 3 minutes and 47 seconds. 

Prior to this, she has won a bronze medal at 2016 summer Olympics in the 58 kg category, becoming the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the Olympics. She had bagged a silver medal in 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and the bronze medal at the 2015 Asian Wrestling Championships in Doha.
