"A match I will never forget", Sumit Nagal reacts on his victory

New Delhi : Sumit Nagal recorded his first ever win in the grand slam by defeating Bradley Klahn of the United States 6-1, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the opening round of the US Open. With this he also became the first Indian in last 7 years to reach the second round of Grand Slam men's singles event. Somdev Devvarman had reached round 2 of the Australian Open, French Open and US Open.

Reacting to his victory, Sumit Nagal shared his feelings on the social media. "It was definitely a special moment and a match I will not forget," he wrote on Twitter. He also tagged India's cricket captain Virat Kohli, the Virat Kohli Foundation among others.



US Open's Twitter handle toasted Sumit Nagal's victory by sharing a video of him scurrying around the court, highlighting his retrieving abilities.



Nagal rose to fame when he took a set off the great Roger Federer in the opening round of the US Open in 2019, eventually losing the encounter 6-4, 1-6, 2-6, 4-6.

He will be up against second seed and World No.3 Dominic Thiem of Austria in the second round.
