New Delhi : International Olympic Committee chief on Monday did a video call with the Chinese tennis star Peng Shuai, who had gone missing after making explosive sexual assault claims on social media.

The organization said that in the beginning of the video call with IOC President Thomas Bach, "Peng Shuai thanked the IOC for its concern about her well-being."

"She explained that she is safe and well, living at her home in Beijing, but would like to have her privacy respected at this time," it said.

"That is why she prefers to spend her time with friends and family right now. Nevertheless, she will continue to be involved in tennis, the sport she loves so much."

Earlier on Sunday, she had attended Beijing tennis tournament, which is also her first public appearance since she was reported missing.

The 35-year-old two-time Grand Slam doubles champion had claimed that Gaoli, now in his 70s, forced her into sex during an on-off relationship spanning several years.

Post which she was missing from public appearances; UN Human Rights and tennis federations asked the Chinese authorities to report about the wellbeing of the tennis star.
