New Delhi : In US Open 2023, Novak Djokovic won his fourth title by defeating Daniil Medvedev in straight sets on Sunday. This victory marked Djokovic's 24th Grand Slam singles title, tying the all-time record held by Margaret Court. Notably, Djokovic is now the oldest men's champion in New York in the Open era at the age of 36. This win also took him back to the world number one ranking.

This victory was particularly sweet for Djokovic, as it allowed him to avenge his loss to Medvedev in the final two years ago. In that 2021 final, Medvedev had prevented Djokovic from achieving the historic feat of winning all four Grand Slam titles in a single year, a feat not accomplished since Rod Laver in 1969.

In the championship match, Djokovic displayed remarkable confidence and control, quickly taking a 2-0 lead with a strong hold and a break of Medvedev's serve. Although Medvedev managed to get on the scoreboard, Djokovic maintained his advantage throughout the match.

Medvedev had previously defeated last year's champion, Carlos Alcaraz, with an outstanding performance in the semi-finals, but he struggled to consistently match Djokovic's level of play in the final.

Despite some moments of pressure from Medvedev, Djokovic's resilience shone through. He saved break points and eventually secured the second set in a tie-break, putting him one step closer to a historic victory.

In the third set, Djokovic continued to apply pressure, breaking Medvedev's serve and eventually sealing the match and the title. While Djokovic and Medvedev displayed sportsmanship by helping each other after a tumble and a few break points, Djokovic ultimately emerged as the victor, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious tennis career.
