Delhi : The Union IT minister said on Friday that in an effort to counter the dangers posed by deepfakes, the government will help those who are offended by offensive content to file formal complaints (FIRs) against social media companies for violating IT regulations.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) will create a portal where users may be informed about IT rule violations by social media platforms, according to Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

"The Rule Seven officer will be someone who establishes a platform where citizens can easily report complaints or claims of legal violations by the platforms to the Government of India." The minister stated, "And the Rule Seven officer will take that digital platform information and respond accordingly."

The minister stated that a FIR will be launched against the middleman and that the material posting entity will be named if they reveal the origins of the content. On Friday, Chandrasekhar organised a conference with all of the significant Internet users and intermediaries. He told the media that the government has been warning internet users about the dangers of deepfakes and false information since October 2022.
