Micromax first smartphone to hit market on Dec 18

New Delhi : Micromax, the Indian smartphone manufacturer is all set to launch its first smartphone in the market on December 18. As such, the company has started sending out media invites for the launch event. According to the leaked news, the smartphone will feature a notched display and could be a flagship device from the company.

To excite prospective buyers, the company has shared an image on social media which shows a silhouette of a smartphone with a regular rectangular notch. The update has arrived when most companies are moving away from a wide notch to the much smaller waterdrop notch. 

This will be the first major smartphone release from Micromax in a while. The company, which once was among the dominating players in the Indian smartphone market, has now been sidelined as Chinese smartphone manufacturers have taken over the market.

Micromax is teasing the launch of this upcoming smartphone with a hashtag #AbovetheRest, suggesting that the phone could be a flagship device from the company. However, do not expect a premium smartphone from the company as it typically launches phones budget to mid-range phones priced under Rs. 20,000 which roughly converts to $280.

The company used to be the second largest smartphone vendor in India but was overrun by the Chinese brands which managed to establish their presence in the market, such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus. However, Micromax recently made its way in the top 5 smartphone vendors list for the Q3 2018. However, that was due to the company’s contract with a state government to supply entry-level phones.
