Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra leak: 200-Megapixel camera and 100x digital zoom on the horizon

Delhi : The periscope lens on the Galaxy S23 Ultra appears to have a 10x optical zoom capacity; it appears that Samsung will replace it with a 5x optical zoom in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Although it may seem that this will prevent the flagship Galaxy model from next year from offering a 100x digital zoom, tipster RGcloudS (viaWccftech) reports that the Galaxy S24 Ultra is anticipated to maintain this feature even with the downgrade.

The first thing that could cross your mind is why Samsung changed the periscope lens on the Galaxy S24 Ultra from having an optical zoom of 10x to 5x. Ironically, Jon McCormack, vice president of software engineering at Apple, has the solution. Tetraprism lens in the iPhone 15 Pro Max that McCormack claimed Apple had restricted the optical zoom to 5x since they couldn't maintain camera stability at 10x optical zoom. He said, "If you look at the 10x zoom, unless you have the steadiest hands in the world or a tripod, it's really difficult to use."

Samsung will be able to provide consumers with greater stabilization on the Galaxy S24 Ultra as a result of the removal of the 10x optical zoom. Even if the periscope lens's 10x optical zoom has been reduced to 5x optical zoom, Samsung will still be able to achieve 100x digital zoom on the Galaxy S24 Ultra using software techniques, meaning that more of the work will be done on the digital side of things.

It shouldn't come as a huge surprise that Samsung can still provide 100x digital zoom even with the updated camera setup. The Galaxy S20 Ultra's 4x optical zoom, enabled the phone to shoot pictures with a 100x digital zoom, as did Huawei's new P60 Pro, while giving just 3.5x optical zoom.

Geek anticipate that Samsung intends to launch its upcoming flagship series early by releasing the Galaxy S24 line in January 2024.
