Delhi : In a major move to strengthen cybersecurity for both commercial and government space operations, NASA has released the first edition of its Space Security Best Practices Guide. This manual is an important tool for enhancing the security and dependability of space operations and is evidence of NASA's commitment to mission longevity and resilience. The guide supports the goals of Space Policy Directive 5, which focuses on Cybersecurity Principles for Space Systems, and is in keeping with NASA's commitment to cybersecurity principles for space systems as stated in the Space System Protection Standard.

The book is intended for a wide range of users, including foreign partners and specialists in the sector. It provides security advice that may be used to projects, programmes, or missions of any size. NASA requests input from the space community to improve the guidance in subsequent iterations.

NASA's deputy senior adviser for enterprise protection, Misty Finical, highlights the significance of defending space missions from any attacks. "This guide represents a collective effort to establish a set of principles that will enable us to identify and mitigate risks and ensure continued success of our missions, both in Earth’s orbit and beyond," Finical stated.

NASA recognises that when information and operational technologies are integrated further into space systems, there are risks as well as possibilities that arise from this growth. These issues are covered in the Space Security Best Practices Guide, which also provides suggestions for putting safety precautions in place and responding to changing threats.
