Delhi : Twitter Inc plans to fire off 50 employees in its product business in the next weeks, according to Insider, citing two individuals familiar with the company.

The company's headcount might drop to under 2,000 following the layoffs, which come six weeks after top boss Elon Musk reportedly told colleagues there would be no more retrenchments.

After taking over Twitter in October, Musk made a number of quick organizational and product adjustments. The business cut approximately 50% of its workforce while simultaneously launching Twitter-verified Blue check-mark as a premium service.

Musk had claimed in November that Twitter was seeing "a big decrease in revenue" due to the departure of advertisers.

A senior ad executive stated Twitter's fourth-quarter income decreased by around 35% to $1.025 billion during a worker meeting, according to online news source the Information on Wednesday.

Fears of an increase in hate speech on the platform have been fuelled by staff reductions to date, which also affected personnel in the content moderation division.
