Delhi : Twitter has reportedly issued a letter to Meta, the parent company of Facebook, threatening legal action over its new text app Threads. The letter accuses Meta of hiring Twitter employees to create a "copycat" app and stealing Twitter's trade secrets and intellectual property. Twitter's legal representative, Alex Spiro, states that they intend to enforce their intellectual property rights and requests Meta to preserve all relevant documents. In response, a Meta spokesperson denies the accusations, stating that none of the Threads engineering team consists of former Twitter employees.

Threads Surpasses 50 Million Users Within 24 Hours

Threads, the newly launched app by Meta, has garnered 50 million users within just 24 hours since its launch. The text-based microblogging service is closely integrated with Meta's popular platform, Instagram. The rapid growth of Threads can be attributed to Meta leveraging its vast user base of over 2.35 billion active users on Instagram. Meanwhile, rival Twitter is feeling the pressure, with its CEO issuing a statement in response, and reports suggesting that Twitter has threatened to sue Meta.

Impressive Rise and Global App Store Rankings

According to internal data from Meta, Threads has surpassed 48 million user registrations, and user reports indicate that the number has now crossed the 50 million mark. The app has quickly climbed to the top of app store rankings in various countries, including India and China, where Meta's other apps are currently blocked. However, Threads has not been made available in the European Union due to strict data security laws in the region.

Twitter's Response and Twitter Community's Uniqueness

In light of Threads' success, Twitter's CEO Linda Yaccarino took to Twitter to emphasize the uniqueness of the Twitter community, stating that it cannot be duplicated. While the app continues to gain users, it currently lacks certain features present on other platforms, such as a chronological feed and the ability to send private messages. Notably, Meta's support documents reveal that deleting a Threads account necessitates deleting the associated Instagram account, highlighting the close integration between the two platforms.

Twitter-Meta Legal Battle Unfolds

The clash between Twitter and Meta escalates as Twitter threatens legal action, accusing Meta of imitating their app and misusing trade secrets. The response from Meta denies the allegations, asserting that no former Twitter employees are part of the Threads engineering team. As the situation unfolds, the rivalry between the two tech giants intensifies, drawing attention to the competitive landscape of social media platforms.
