Delhi : WhatsApp, Meta's famous messaging app, is introducing a new feature on its iOS beta version that allows users to exchange high-quality videos. However, delivering videos in their native quality is not possible due to modest compression used to maintain video dimensions.

High-Quality Videos with a Tag

According to WABetaInfo, the default setting for video sharing will be 'Standard quality' for all users. To send a higher-quality video, users must manually select the high-quality option each time. When using the high-quality function to send a video, a tag will be added to the message bubble telling the recipient that the video was sent with this choice.

Exclusions and Profile Icon Enhancements

It is important to remember that this high-quality video function is not available for sharing videos via status updates. Furthermore, WhatsApp is improving profile icons in group chats. The platform now replaces the profile images of contacts whose thumbnails are missing or obscured. These modified thumbnails now show the initials of each group member's name, making it easier for participants to identify individuals represented by the thumbnails.

Availability and testing

The ability to send high-quality videos, as well as improvements to profile icons in group chats, are presently being evaluated by beta users who have installed the most recent version of WhatsApp beta for iOS.
